In a couple of places he unhelpfully pits doctrine against story, making an either-or where I think a both-and is more appropriate. Is your understanding of salvation large enough? Salvation is involvement in the latter two sections. The covenant with Abraham launches the community of blessing—both blessed and being a blessing to the nations. Or so the argument goes.

Christians do not deserve salvation. Blessing, just as salvation, includes both physical and spiritual aspects. So our experience of salvation is not just a private ticket to heaven. As usual in the Apocalypse, at the termination of a description of the last judgment comes the triumphant song of the heavenly host cf Revelation ; Revelation

They may have scriptures and cultures of great antiquity, wisdom, and dignity, but they do not tell this story—the story of our covenant God and his saving action in history. Wright argues that we need to hold in careful balance our relationship with God and his rule over all. The new covenant of prophetic promise points forward to the era in which we now live on this side of the incarnation and Easter, and on beyond even that to the future hope of new creation. Rather it is because salvation is a narrative needing to be told, good news needing to be announced, events needing to be known, revealing a God needing to be trusted Luke ; John ; Cor. With full quotations of key Scripture texts a welcome feature throughout this book!

Salvation belongs to our God book

Salvation means blessing on a particular people and blessing through a particular people. Enemies, lies, disease, oppression, false accusation, violence, death—all of these things from which we pray to be saved are the results of rebellion and sin in the human heart. Wright argues convincingly that salvation is a unique story no other religion can tell.

That is, the whole canon only makes complete sense in the light of the great ultimate revelation of the new creation in its final book. Blessing is a key word in Genesis—the promise and mandate of creation in chapters 1 and 2; the echo of that creation after the flood ; and now again the promise of God to and through Abraham.

From there, you will find rest for your soul 4 because you find the forgiveness of your sins. By no means! However, God really has saved that person. It's a book I would encourage young Christians, even inquirers to pick up and it's a book that would serve any pastor well.

The explanation in Revelation confirms this. This is the message missionaries proclaim to the unreached peoples in the world.

If other religions may be the preparation that leads people to faith in Christ, goes the argument, then we may allow those other scriptures to function as a culturally appropriate alternative to the Jewish Scriptures. Wright is now the international director of the Langham Partnership International known in the United States as John Stott Ministriesproviding literature, scholarships and preaching training for pastors in Majority World churches and seminaries.

The word salvation means, simply, safety. We cannot destroy or threaten it for those to whom God has granted it, nor can we decide who gets to have it, or not.

Biblical salvation, then, is inseparable from the biblical word—the Scriptures themselves.

Salvation Belongs to Our God: Celebrating the Bible's Central Story

That there is salvation in no other is passionately proclaimed. This is not just a vague dream of what might be, but a confident vision of what will be because of the one who is seated on the throne.

Two brief points may be made. So also you seek out help for your broken soul. The remaining portion of the book is analogous to the latter part of Ezekiel. Not that we could claim it for ourselves. Here is a truly cross-centered grande finale to this biblical survey of salvation.

Similar to a story, salvation covers all three aspects of time: past, present, and future see pp. Diminutive from aren; a lambkin. But according to the Bible, religion saves nobody. The nation that would come from Abraham, then, would be a people who would know the saving blessing of God.

Salvation is the result of no action of ours other than that of asking and accepting it from God.Nevertheless, it can also serve as a reminder to even the seasoned theologians, who spend a lot of time on the little details, that there is an overarching story and plan of God's within which we play our part.

I highly recommend this book. Here's a wonderful summary of book's main point, from the book itself: "Salvation in the Bible, because Reviews: Salvation Belongs to Our God: Celebrating the Bible's Central Story - eBook () by Christopher J.H.

And since that is the end of our eternal story, nothing can change it. Salvation belongs to. Christopher Wright uses this verse as a lens through which he surveys the Bible’s teaching on 'salvation’.

Every phrase in the verse resonates with significant themes in the Old and New Testaments, all of which combine to show that the Bible tells the story of God’s salvation very broadly indeed, in relation to the character and purposes of God, the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ 5/5(1).
